Taking a little time for yourself is a lot easier than trying to use Gorilla glue to put your life back together.
If you have been a mom for any length of time, you know that taking care of yourself may not always be at the top of your “To Do List.” It should be, but don’t we “run the world?” I mean, wouldn’t everything come crashing down into pieces that no Gorilla glue could ever fix if we actually took time for ourselves?

I know it is easy to slip into that mindset, but the reality is it wouldn’t. Things will still get accomplished and children would still get taken care of, although it might not be to your standards. We have to learn to let go of the stereotype our society inflicts upon us that we have to be a doting wife, perfect mother, stable employee, impeccable housekeeper, professional cook, and 24-hour personal assistant for your 3 year- old.
Do you want to know how to start a mommy self-care routine that you can’t live without?
It is simple, really.
Take time for yourself!
Create an easy, but refreshing mommy self-care routine that becomes a non-negotiable.
You know that saying, “When momma’s happy, everybody’s happy?”
IT. IS. TRUE.
You are not being selfish. I know that initially your husband and children may see it that way. But once you begin making it a priority to do things for yourself and take time for yourself, they will witness an improvement in their own quality of life.
What, you don’t believe me?
I dare you to try it. Blame it on me if it doesn’t work! Have your husband and children send their complaints on over to me!
THAT is how sure I am that a “Mommy Self-Care Routine” will improve the quality of your life and the lives of all of those around you!
To get you started, here are some of my favorite things I do for my mommy self-care routine on a regular basis.
1. Shave your legs.
There is nothing smoother than freshly shaved legs. . .well maybe a baby’s butt, but I digress. The razor I use is so amazing I don’t even use shaving cream! That in in of itself saves a ton of time.
2. Always have your toenails polished.
That doesn’t mean you have to go out and get pedicures and spend money. I very rarely go to a nail salon. Over the years, I have found products I use at home to keep my pretty little toes, well. . .pretty.
3. Keep your Eyebrows in Shape.
I have always had very thick eyebrows. And for some reason, I didn’t realize you could control them. I look back at my high school senior pictures and think, “How did my mom not tell me I had other options?” (Sorry, mom you were amazing in every other way!)
My favorite method of eyebrow shaping, especially when I want to subject myself to immense pain, is eyebrow threading. I honestly feel that those trained in eyebrow threading have a gift. Anybody can wax an eyebrow, and all you can do is lay back and hope the entire eyebrow doesn’t come off!
That being said, I do have a wax machine at home that I use for the top of my brows and my upper lip (did I mention I have middle eastern heritage) and tweezers to shape my eyebrows from underneath. It is much less expensive and a huge time saver. I don’t want to be glued to a chair with my hands in a death grip while my 3-year-old is running around the salon willy-nilly!
4. Lather your feet, especially the heels, with lotion every night before bed.
I have tried many types of lotion and have 2 favorites and 1 runner up.
FAV #1: L’OCCITANE Shea Butter Hand Creme – yes, I know I said for feet, but this one works better on my feet than the L’OCCITANE foot crème!
FAV #2: O’Keefe’s Healthy Feet Crème
RUNNER UP: L’OCCITANE Shea Butter Foot Crème – even though I prefer the hand crème, the foot crème has an amazing smell that seems to soothe tired feet
5. Moisturize your Face every day and every night.
My grandmother is 92 years old. You would never guess it just by looking at her. Yes, of course, she has wrinkles, but not nearly as much as you would expect for someone her age!
I am hoping I inherit those genes, but I won’t know until it is too late. So, since my twenties, I have religiously used facial moisturizer with SPF 30 every day. I use a separate cream for around my eyes, and I use a special nighttime moisturizer. My kids have grown to love the smell of my nighttime cream and when I tuck them into bed they say how they love that “mommy smell.”
I wanted to share this with you, not as an advertisement for the brands I use, or for commission from affiliate sales, but as an inspiration for you to develop your own “Mommy Self-Care” routine-with whichever products you choose!
